How much ammo is too much ammo?

I bought 1000 rounds of 7.62x39 and 500 rounds of 45ACP about a month ago and i thought I was ready to hold down the fort agains the apocalypse, now I feel.. so small...

you can never truly have enough, but honestly when it comes to SHTF total economic melt down eventually ammo with become currency (trading for things). But realistically how much are you going to be able to carry with you if you have to leave and never come back?

I'm gonna swin against the tide on this one, but I think anything over say 1000rds / gun is outa control. Unless you've got money to burn. Here's why I'm thinkin this:

1. If you're in a 10,000 round firefight . . . you're dead already
2. If you're in a 10,000 round situation you're gonna have to bug out.
3. If you bug out, your only takin 1000-2000 rounds max
4. Money might be better spent on MREs, fuel storage, big tires and axles
5. Is your house hardened?

In an SHTF situation, you'll need lots of gold too. Ammo will be a very tradable commodity, but I think if you have tons of ammo and guns, you will be a huge target. Better to lay low and wait for things to shake out. Less shooting = long life.

Alright now, let the lead fly. Why am I wrong.
