    Red Dot Question

Will this red dot, http://www.basspro.com/RedHead-Ascen.../49658/-979813 clear my ARs standard front sight? Or would I need some kind of a riser? Thanks

From looking at the photo, the base is not tall enough. You'll need a riser if your gun is a flat top.

FWIW, I use an EOTech on my teaching/training rifle with the normal front sight still in place and you don't see it as you're visually looking on a different plane. The 1 MOA dot on the EOTech is co-witnessed with the back up iron rear and front sight.

In your case, I'd go for it as is and adjust if necessary from there. Risers are easy to find/make.

Stop, do not buy it. A buddy of mine bought one and it was a POS on an AR15. If you only got $50 to spend on a RDS, buy one built for an AR15 on the cheap.

at least run with the crowd on this. many many people have trusted PA for their inexpensive AR15 optics and they were happy they did.

^^ If you want to go on the lower-priced end, go with the Primary Arms. They're okay for the money and seem to hold zero and are perfect for co-witness. I have one I can sell you, since I got an EoTech. Send me a PM.

Might as well get a tasco.

The primary arms dot is nice. I have the m3 multi recticle and really like it.

Thanks for the replies. Figured I'd need a riser. The reason I put that one up is that it's nearing my B-day and Xmas and I always get Bass Pro gift certificates. Never cash so I can buy elsewhere. I figured it would just be a starter to see if I like it. Thanks again.

Talk to the PA rep...he may trade you an optic for the gift cards...no joke. I traded Home Depot gift cards at Big 5 and got a M91/30...lol

You can always sell or exchange your gift cards! Just google 'gift card exchange' and you'll find plenty of results.
