Gunstore in LA/OC that sells individual AR parts?

Im just about to complete my first build and I have run into a problem. The safety selector that came with my LPK doesnt seem to work properly. I can switch from SAFE to SEMI but then the detent pin locks and keeps the selector in SEMI and I cant get it to move back to SAFE.

Im pretty sure its a poorly made safety selector switch, and i would normally just order a replacement online, but I dont want to wait to the end of the month for it to get here.

Is there a place in the LA area that sells individual AR parts?

A lot of the time those pins are stiff. Loosen up your pistol grip and move it back and forth a bunch of times. Then slowly tighten the grip.

If you just tighten the grip on there, a lot of times it won't move.

The selector can not be moved to "safe" unless the hammer is cocked (same as with many guns).

Rack the charging handle and then try to operate the selector without pulling the trigger. Should work.

Chances are it's not your selector, but the selector detent.

Make sure it's installed properly (it looks like a bullet, make sure it goes nose-first in the hole) and then cock the hammer and turn the selector back and forth a half-dozen times between safe and semi to break in the detent.

Sometimes, I've smacked the selector lever with a very small soft hammer to get it going the first time.

The nose of the detent can be really sharp from the factory, and what you need to do is round it out a little bit with use so that the selector is easier to use.

Don't just automatically replace the selector. It's a lot more expensive than a new detent.

                Thanks for all the response.

i thought the same thing about the detent at first and even sanded it down a bit to make sure. but when i hold the gun upside down and just drop the detent in the hole without the spring it would still lock up. I think the hole for the detent on the selector switch is drilled just an RCH too deep and the detent gets stuck.

Glendale Gun Show here i come.

Did you take cokebottles advice? The safety cannot be moved unless the BCG is in the charged position. What LPK did you purchase?

Ammo Bros has individual LPK parts. Rifle Gear is a great store but I don't know if they sell just a selector plunger, bdsmchs will know. If you are in the Gardena area M-F, LMK and I can take a look for you.

The BCG can be forward, but the hammer must be pulled back.

With the hammer forward, it depresses the front of the trigger, which raises the rear of the trigger and blocks the selector.

                          it was a DMPS kit.

Then chances are VERY GOOD that it's an out of spec selector

There's a reason I would never recommend anyone buy a DPMS kit. DPMS *can* make a good part, but their QA is so sparse that tons and tons of bad parts make it into the market. For an LPK DPMS is NEVER worth it.

Yeah, when I first put together my AR lower I was bummed until I realized that you have to work it a few times to get it moving freely. Same with the takedown pin, pivot pin, and bolt catch. Just work them all a dozen or so times and then go shoot the thing and it should be all right.

Unless something is actually wrong with the selector.
