RRA, 16" Predator Pursuit upper. Any drawbacks to this length?

I want to build a featureless AR. I'm thinking a RRA Predator Pursuit Complete upper, 16 inch barrel. Going with the Exile Arms Hammerhead, Monsterman, or Kydex wrap, with an ACE Skeleton Stock or standard A2 Stock. Just target shooting out to 150 yards or so. I shoot mostly 55-62 gr Mil Surplus ammo. Any drawbacks to the shorter barrel length? Or would the 18" Varmint, or 20" Predator Pursuit be a better option. Thanks for any input on this. c good

I would avoid the varmint because it is unnecessarily heavy. 16" is good for your stated distance and then some. I'd actually stick with the 16" since it would probably balance the rifle better.

Any specific reason you want an RRA?

Why get a short barrel on a target gun? Get the 20" or a 24".

RRA is running a 10% off special right now. Also, I like the idea of the Wylde Chamber, and no extra charge chrome bolt. Seems like a good deal, but I'm open to alternatives so don't hold back. I like the flat top, plus flat gas block so I can scope it. Also, no flash supressor so I can go featureless and drop my old mags the old fashioned way. Thanks for all input so far. c good

Does he gain an advantage with a 20" instead of a 16" at 150 yards? Or are you thinking the extra weight for a bench/target rifle is outweighed by the ability to shoot longer distances if/when he wants to?

That upper is a good choice for a target rifle. It has the RRA NM barrel which is capable of very good accuracy. If you got a few extra dollars I'd look at White Oak Armament or Compass Lake Engineering. If I ever build a precision/target AR15 my first choice would be WOA.

I have 3 Rock River AR's and they run like a clock (oil needed). I will never let them go away. Although my favorite is myAR is my LMT piston monolithic upper with a lmt lower, a complete LMT but at $2400.oo for California that is pricy. My least favorite AR of all time is my POF gas piston rifle , it has prolems. For acuracy and lighter weight please consider coyote 16 inch or the better yet go for 2o incher, Both are super accurate and use a hbar Nm wylde chamber barrel, not the heavy varmit one. Go with the standard A2 stock. I heard the type of foam on the skeleton stock absorbs sweat and stinks after a bit of time. You can put a muzzel brake on the coyote barrel still use old 30 round mags wind no bullet along with the monster man grip. It works better to use as ambi saftey with the monsterman grip. Also options like you also can use this upper on a full feature lower as long as it has a bullet button with 10 round mags.
To tooo tooo much fun aren't they!

The foam on the ACE stocks is washable. We do carry some textured dipped rubber sleeves to substitute for that foam. They are not sponge foam so they won't absorb sweat, but they look just like the foam piece.

We have the Hammerhead on sale right now, blemished units for $13.99 delivered. Fine to use as-is or apply a quick spray of automotive primer and they look like a million bucks.

RRA makes a good upper. We are an authorized RRA dealer and can beat any price out there.
