    FN SCAR 16S carbine

Hey all does anyone know if the FN SCAR is available in a California legal version?

A friend of mine wants to get one (I'm more of an AR guy) and asked me about legality. I know the 30 rounder will need to be replaced with the CA 10 rounder and the magazine cannot be releasable save for cleaning purposes, but does anyone have one or know of the legality of owning one in California.

    Thanks

You have to add BB and PIN the stock.

you can have it with a folding stock as long as you meet the 30 inches length of the rifle. The barrel meets the 16 inches length without any FH but fails with the oal of 30 inches with the stock folded, so you need a 5 1/2 flash hider to meet the legalities.

Yep, there are a few people who own SCARs. You can put a bullet button on it and lock the stock. Or you can keep the folding stock feature, but you have to have a extension put on so the folded over all length is over 30". Still have to lock the mag release with a bullet button though.

You can have it shipped to a middle man, or one of the local shops should be able to get it for you. If youre in the bay or SJ area, check out Valkyrie Firearms in Milpitas. I have also seen some SCARs pop up in the classifieds.

            Hi,
Yeah, I've got one. There are various online outlets, some will install the lock for the stock and the bullet button for you. Some will ship them to your FFL and he will make the mods. Some FFLs can do this, some cannot so check first. I bought two, the first I sold before I ever took it home to a guy that was just itching for one (I made $250), and the other I kept.

You can purchase them for anywhere between $2199 and $2500+. I paid $2300.

I reccommend them, I own a Noveske Reece, a Ruger SR556, a DPMS with a bull barrel, and the SCAR among others. The SCAR is the finest rifle, it is very well engineered, light and balanced. It is accurate, easy as heck to clean and I didn't need to add a bunch of custom goodies to make it feel right. The stock folds, but of couse Comiefornia will make you lock the stock because of the silly 30 inch rule. The stock also adjusts and has an adjustable cheek weld. There is room in the buttstock for 123 batteries.

Only two things I'm not crazy about; One is the trigger feel the other is the location or lack of flexibility in the sling mount locations. Not big issues, I fixed the trigger and got used to the sling situation.

            Love my SCAR. Buy one!
sigpicC'mon man, shouldn't we ban Democracks from Cal-Guns? Or at least send them to re-education camps.

After your friend buys his Scar tell him to pick up an M1 Garand chamber brush. Cleaning the gas cylinder or whatever you want to call it where the small piston goes can be a pain to clean. I noticed the M1 Garand chamber brush fits pretty good and cleans it up super fast with a few rotations.
