    SBR "extension"?

Had an idea about putting together an SBR upper for an AR, but also to weld on a metal extension below the barrel (bayo lug maybe) of a nominal size that would extend out to 16" of the barrel assembly ~ would this be ok to do? (Yes I know it would be UGLY), but would this satisfy the ATF req's if the bbl was still 12" but OAL was over the 16" mark?

    TIA

No. Barrel length is required to be 16". anything less would need to be a pistol here in CA.

You could do a 12" barrel with a pinned 4" extension.

Like he said. If it is actually part of the barrel it is all good, but you can't just tape a straw to the bottom of it to make length. haha.

Extensions must be part of the barrel. For example, a flash hider or compensator that is permanently attached to the barrel to bring it over 16 inches. A rod below or attached to the barrel is not part of the barrel that the round travels through.

That would work for overall length, but not barrel length.
