AIM Enfield 2A 308 Cali legal?
Collapse

The hell with the rifle - great price on 308 ammo if it's clean stuff.
The rifle is fine in CA, the mag is a 12 rounder and not OK but as mentioned they'll ship it with a 10 rounder to CA. There are also plenty of aftermarket 10 round 308 Ishy mags available. I have the full length Ishy and it's a fun gun to shoot. Same probably applies to the carbine. Price seems OK.GOA Member & SAF Life Member -
There's been a good amount of talk about them.
They're bolt-action, so of course they're legal.

The rifle itself is legal.
The 12(?) round magazine is not legal to be shipped to CA.
Purchasers of downconverted-to-10rds Enfield 2A magazines should ensure that the mags have been permanently restricted to 10rds or less capacity. What this means is that it damned well better require destroying the magazine in any attempt to recover greater-than-10rd capacity.
I repeat that many out of state vendors simply do not understand the permanence aspect of hicap mag parts/hicap mags used to form locap mags: a simple filler or block does not suffice.
Fortunately, in an Enfield 2A and incorrect mag capacity will not trigger a separate AW violation.

The Ishapore SMLEs were made in India, mostly late 50s into late 60s I believe. They were manufactured as 7.62, not as 303 reworks. So if you have one in its full length condition it would not be a home gunsmith rework.
I had a carbine model, imported by Navy Arms years ago, that I think they called an Enfield #8 - meaningless number so far as I know.
The Enfield pictured looks like an OK conversion. It's not exactly brain surgery. They lopped off some barrel & stock and mounted an aftermarket flash hider. Pretty straight forward job. I was at the Vallejo show last week and there were a few Ishapores there that kept the the full length front end but the barrel was I believe 20" or so. Whoever did those did a nice job.
The full length is pleasant to shoot, carbine's OK also. Typical military accuracy of about 3" @ 100 yards.GOA Member & SAF Life MemberComment
