    Identify my Retro AR Upper

I purchased this from another forum and am wanting to identify what type of upper and maker.

    Upper - no markings
Barrel - MP marking under FSB and C an inch from the flash
FSB - some hard to read markings

Looks like an early Colt SP1

        Ahh, SP1 has no FA....

Maybe just an early (pre shell deflector) A1?

with the exception of the forward assist, it looks like a colt sp-1 upper, as is the bolt carrier group.
That may be a CG first!

Thanks guys. How can you tell it's a Colt upper? I looked at several parts kits on the market and all of the one's I have seen come with a new in the white barrel with a 1/12" twist. The barrel on this upper has a uniform finish to the upper receiver and I a super clean barrel.

The upper fits nicely on my RAW Colt lower. It looks kind of funny on my lower due to the collapsible stock thought . I can't wait to take it out and print it on paper as I have high expectations for it. It is amazingly light compared to my other Colt M4 upper.

I would like to purchase a NDS lower. Do I order a gray one or a black one with battle pickup finish? I also need to track down all the proper parts for the lower receiver.

You barrel is a Colt and it was made from 1966 through 1968. I don't see any forge marks on the upper receiver so I don't know whether it is a Colt or something else. Look at my picture below and you will see the forge marks on the right of the ejection port: a square C and a triangle with small letters "VP" within. If you don't see a square C and triangle, do you see just a round C forge mark? Those forge marks indicate the upper is a Colt.

If your bolt carrier group is a Colt, then the left side of the carrier should have a letter C, and MPC on the bolt.

Very nice Submariner! How does she run?

Looks a lot like my upper. Mine is a USGI A1 top half with an SP1 BCG. I've got the later barrel, though - C MP CHROME BORE.

There's forging marks on mine - P and M in the divot on the right side, below the rear sight drum. Supposedly means that it was made for Colt by Martin Marietta, on an A1. (On an A2 it would mean that it was a Filipino rifle, not a Colt.)

No stampings on the receiver itself, but the bolt has the appropriate markings for a Colt SP1.

I've got the later FA button, the large round one, and the A1 birdcage. Looks like mine was probably made late 70's / early 80's as a replacement or spare parts upper.

Great little rifles and they work wonderfully with .22 drop in conversions.

The bolt is marked MPC but I was not able to find a C on the bolt carrier. There are no markings whatsoever on the upper receiver.

Haha. She runs like a well tuned Swiss watch. I used to be a stickler when it came to measuring how accurate it was to the point I had it regulated when it was +8 seconds per day. The last time I evaluated it over a month period I estimated that it gained 3 seconds per day which is pretty darn good for a automatic watch.
