    ammo for M1A

So I picked up a case of new Winchester 147gr .308 NATO at the gun show at the Cow Palace today. 1 case of 400rds for $189

Has anyone used this ammo in there M1A and how did it do? My new M1A will be getting out of jail this coming Friday and I can't wait to try it out

All chambers are different, you will have to try different ammo to see what it like to eat.
There are sniper everywhere and nowhere.....who knows what is out there.

this might be a question you ask before buying the ammo...
that being said, my M1A ate every type of ammo i could throw at it. not all were accrit, but they all functioned.

I wanted something I could reload so I figured I would buy the NATO stuff to plink and shoot 100 yards and under with. Then custom load and tune her in.

YES I use it. It shoots very well for me and IMHO is accurate round to round. It appears to be loaded very consistently.

Keep in mind that most of the NATO surplus stuff out there is berdan primed and not practical for reloading.

Lake City is the most common of the boxer primed surplus but it's pricier than the rest of it.

For (relatively) inexpensive commercial boxer ammo, Prvi Partisan or PMC is probably your best bet.

True, but for the most part it's more expensive than the others, although there are occasional deals to be found such as the deal you got at the Cow Palace. (great deal, by the way)
When you find those deals, jump on them.

For the most part, boxer primed 7.62 x 51/.308 runs closer to 0.60 per round of you buy in moderate quantity.

I have older boxes of that Winchester ammo and believe mine have steel jacketed bullets. I wonder if they are still made that way? Try putting a magnet to the bullet and let us know. Some ranges won't let you shoot them during the dry season.

Most people online think that, but in my experience 7 times out of 10 they told me it was berdan primed, I found out that it was boxer primed.

LOL! That "For M1A" branding on the AA box is pretty funny.

Did you buy them from a seller called "Miwall" and all 400 rounds were loose in a .50 Cal. ammo can?

If so, I bought the same ammo from them and just shot some out of my M1A last Thursday with no problems at all. I've tried some surplus ammo (origin unknown) that did not work well, I suspect, due to fat cases in a tight chamber.

Heiko yes Miwall is whom I bought them from. I love those guys they always have what I'm looking for at awesome prices. Miwall rocks plain and simple. Being that I reload it will a long time before I make another ammo purchase for my M1A.
