Muzzle break or flash hidder?

Ok so I just started dros today on a 700 sps tac aac sd. I only wanted the sps tac but then they showed me the "other one" which got me as soon as I saw that there is an option for a muzzle break. Do I want to buy a muzzle break or flash hidder. Is the flash hidder illegal? Or are they the same exact thing? Any suggestions on which one I should buy? I want to go for looks but at the same time I want function. 5/8-24 threads. I would go with a fake can but I don't think they would work as well as a good muzzle break. .308 cal

Since it is on a bolt action rifle either is perfectly legal. It's flash hiders on semi autos that you have to worry about.

Unless you're sniping in a combat environment and don't want to give away your location, a flash hider is pretty much just for cool factor and looks.

A muzzle brake (correct spelling, be careful or the spelling nazis will come in and ruin your day) will help manage your felt recoil and lead to quicker times back on target. However, muzzle brakes aren't always that public range friendly because they blow all the gas and noise out the side at your neighbors in the adjacent lanes.

Functionally speaking, you will benefit more from a brake, but get whatever floats your boat. If you change your mind muzzle attachments are super easy to swap out.
