There's a wealth of information on here. You basically have two choices, bullet button fixed mag with evil features (flash hider, collaspible stock, pistol grip, forward grip, grenade launcher
etc.) or a Monsterman Grip without evil features (fixed stock, muzzle brake) but using detachable mags. You could also do a U-15 stock. You lose a little bit of control with the MMG, but gain the ability to use your old 30rd mags and to drop them by hand. Read through the laws and such to make sure you're comfortable.
In terms of what to build, it's like asking people what kind of car they want. There are so many choices. I would look at Ten Percent Firearms, Cold War Shooters, LanWorld Inc, Metroshot, etc. (people who sell OLLs and have been for a while to us Californians).
Present issues excepted, Stag seems to be what most people build. Rock River Arms are also popular. You'll want to make informed choices.
Barrel length, operating system (Direct gas or gas piston), flat-top or carry handle, float rails, scopes, etc. are all issues you'll want to figure out.
It's much easier if you ask specific questions.
