So I took my new AK into my local cali gunshop...

So I had my gun sent to a nearby FFL where I picked it up, but once I got it home the bolt didn't want to slide smoothly forward, it seemed to be getting stuck over the hammer when it was drawn back, so I cleaned the crap out of it, then oiled it up, and the problem still persisted so I took it to another local gun shop because they were closer. I informed one of their employees what was happening and he went to get the gunsmith to check it out. So the gunsmith came out and took a look at it and racked it a couple times and told me, "Son, this is an AK-47, not a tight-*** M4 carbine, blow a couple magazines through it and it will be fine", then he proceeded to tell me the regular bull**** on how close my firearm is to being illegal and on and on, but I informed him that in the current configuration that it is legal. He seemed none to happy about me owning the firearm . so I bought my 40 rounds and left, I'm definitely looking forward to taking it out on the range.

Every AK I have shot sticks a little over the hammer. The hammer sticks up just enough to give it a little friction.

We had a Century come through here that if you racked it slow the bolt would stick open. Rack it normally and it would close normally. It fired just fine.

      Just how the AK is.

Semi-automatic firearms don't work if you ride the action slowly.

I'm not talking about riding the action forward. You pulled back and let go. If you pulled back slowly then it would stick, if you pulled back fast and let go it went into battery. It was the oddest thing to me, however I deal in AR's so I am not an AK expert and my only AK (Arsenal) doesn't stick.

Its the hammer rubbing the bolt, its normal, check this out, MAKE SURE THE FIREARM IS UNLOADED FIRST!!!, pull the trigger as if you were firing a round, now keep the trigger depressed, pull the bolt back and forth and it shouldnt catch the hammer and will move freely. What happens is when you fire the rifle the bolt comes back and pushes the hammer back and down to be caught by the disconnector, at this point the hammer is held down lower so the bolt clears it. When you release the trigger, this allows the hammer to be released by the disconnector to be caught by the trigger hook (thats the click sound). During actual firing the bolt goes back then forward chambering a new round faster then you can release the trigger, so during operation, the bolt doesnt rub on the hammer like this, just when you are chambering a round because the hammer is up higher being held by the trigger hook.

Also it will actually get smoother and eventually it will hardly ever do it, if at all, just from the two parts wearing themselves smooth and the force of the spring overcomes the friction.

also I wanted to add for safety and legal purposes, dont get the bright idea of removing or messing with the disconnector to try and get full auto out of it, first and foremost you can blow your gun up hurting you and others, and second it is EXTREMELY illegal. A real full auto AK has a seperate part called a full auto rate reducer, that holds the hammer back until the the next round is chambered.

                    watch

its amazing how straight this guy holds the gun as its going full auto.

A friend's Saiga 12 does it too, if you ride the bolt.

Pull back charging handle all the way and release. Do not follow the charging handle forward. If its still sticking you have an issue, if no longer then Rock & Lock.

Driving 65 in a 65 zone is close to illegal too, so is sex with an 18 year old hottie - both are good to go though . I don't get people who complain about something that isn't illegal because there is something somewhat similar that is actually illegal. Makes zero sense
