    FTF Issue Cont...

    Rifle Specs:

    BCM Gov't 20 upper
    JDMachine Lower
    RRA LPK
    Two different Pmags 10/20.
Two different bolts: BCM and Young Mfg.

    Quick issue overview:

After shooting, the spent cartridge ejects, and while the bolt comes forward, the new cartridge is jammed up on the top of the chamber. This only happens when there are about two or three rounds left in the mag. All rounds before that feed and eject fine.

I posted about this a few weeks ago and some people mentioned different mags, and to loosen up my Raddlock screw.

I loosened up my Raddlock screw and the issue continued.

After manually extracting several rounds with the charging handle and watching the bolt close and load the new round, I noticed that the bolt was not catching the back end of the cartridge. Instead it would catch on the "lip" after the notch that houses the primer. Obviously that is going the cause the entire cartridge to get wedged up in the chamber and not get slid into the chamber properly.

However, I did try my almost new 10/30 pmag and the issue didn't seem to happen. While cycling rounds in my older pmags, I noticed that the cartridges would not line up properly on the top of mag, thus causing the primer end of the cartridge to be a little bit lower, low enough for the bolt to not catch it properly.

By the way, these same PMags have worked flawlessly for hundreds of rounds through my GG&G upper. This only started happening with my BCM.

So my questions are, is it just finicky enough to not like those 10/20 pmags for some reason, or are they worn out, or do they even wear out? Also, I doubt that it's a "pmag" issue since my 10/30 feeds fine, but it is a much newer mag. Is it possible that my 10/20 pmags just need to be cleaned? How would I do that since I can't disassemble them?

Any info you guys have is much appreciated as always!

Those threads are easy to respond to. Your problem confuses me and give me a headache :P

I honestly have no idea what the problem is with your rifle.

You know what, that kind of reply is much better than nothing. It's even better then recommending something totally random. It at least assures me a little that I have covered most of my bases.

What kind of stock/buffer are you using?

Do these mags all use anti-tilt follower?

Stock is a fixed A2 style. The buffer, plus spring, was just a regular kit I bought from one of the internet sites. Nothing special about the buffer. Should be regular milspec weight.

Never heard of that. I purchased all mags from Midwest PX. Just standard pmags, no ranger plate or anything.

Edit: I just looked them up. Looks like you have to install them? If I remember correctly, you can't take apart mags that have been internally blocked.

Don't confuse the issue. The AR was used in combat for decades and functioned fine before the advent of anti-tilt followers, if you are getting ftfs, there is something wrong with the gun. Having good mags will only mask the problem.

It seems like either something is pushing the cartridges down, or up, unevenly. The only thing that can help reduce that is an anti-tilt follower. Try replacing the follower from the good mags, then the spring, to at least narrow down the issue.

Good point, so that's what we are left with, trying to find out what's wrong with a standard setup.

If that's the case I would have to purchase new 10 round mags, which I could take apart and install the follower. As far as I know I can't take apart 10/20 or 10/30 internally blocked pmags.

How would one clean these mags? I know I have put hundreds of rounds through them, and not even cleaned them once. I think I read somewhere that someone put them in the dishwasher?

Also, should you lubricate the follower at all?

It depends on how they're made. On mine, they're riveted on the sides so you can remove the plate, spring, and followers. I've never had to lubricate my magazines, just clean out the dirt/dust if any.

If you bought them from Midwest PX, you should be able to send them back to be checked out. Maybe tell Ty more specifically about your problem so he can better help.
