Fixed mag, not even a BB, the ejection port is large enought to feed rounds through it. I also have a RAW, but that's another story

On the fixed mags are they a set screw so you can remove it later ?

Mine is a set screw, yes. I have another lower with a shaved pistol stud, it's awkward but featureless mag changes are nice.

There's a number of ways of configuring FALs. Way back when, the state DOJ provided DSA a letter saying that it was legal to use a set screw in the magazine release and top load it so that is, as far as I know, the only state approved off list rifle.

Another way of doing it is going featureless using a kydex grip wrap or the never to be seen FAL MMG.

Another way is using a mag lock such as the great one manufactured by PRK firearms. This allows you to lock a 10 or fewer round magazine and have all the evil features you want.

Top loading an FAL is easy if you use a stripper clip dust cover which are (were?)available from TAPCO.
Check back later for a witty comment.

My DSA STG58 went from set screw and side loading (regular scope mount, not the T48 type) to PRK mag lock. I 10/20'd some magazines with steel rivets, the steel takes bluing, and use a STANAG scope mount from SARCO.

fixed mag with a stripper clip top cover, works just fine as a top loader

Not sure why people are saying even a simple bullet button doesn't make a FAL CA-legal. Because it most certainly does...

PRK bullet button is all you need to make it legal, Non Detachable Magazine. Unless there are some other issues such as not meeting the 30 inch length, or the receiver is on the list.

Replace the lower receiver with argie or DSA lower, they dont use a stud they use a screw to hold the PG on. Take the PG off ,when the PG is not an issue just put it back on.
