    first build

    Hey folks,

First time building an AR15 and I just wanted to get some advice. I bought 2 lowers already. One is from Mega Machine and the other is a Spikes Tactical. Thanks to the folks at Riflegear for helping me with those.

Anyways, I'm ready to start on my first build and I've decided I wanna go with 5.56/.223 cal, 16inch carbine style. Been looking at BCM and Riflegear upper assemblies. It looks like Riflegear sells the complete upper with bcg and charging handle included while BCM sells just the upper assembly without the 2 said components.

I just wanted to know whether or not it would be difficult to just buy the BCM upper assembly and buy the additional bcg and charging handle separately and put it together myself or would it just be better to buy the complete upper from Riflegear and just drop it in.

I little background about myself: Just started getting into firearms collecting. Own a Mosin Nagant 91/30, mossberg 500 12ga, and 10/22 ruger. Dont have any experience with building firearms although I am very excited to try it.

My initial plan was to buy the 2 stripped lowers, put together the lpk, stock, foregrip, etc. But as far as the upper I was just gonna buy a completed upper and just drop it in. Now I dunno if I should just go ahead and try building the upper assembly since I'm putting together the lower from scratch. Thing is I don't know much about upper assembly parts so I'm worried I'll mess up the build. As far as all the lower receiver parts I think I've done enough research to know what to choose now. Is the upper assembly going to be much more difficult to build on my own? Should I stick to my initial plan or just go for it?

    What do you guys think?

There's no assembly really required for BCG and charging handle (other than maybe taking it apart to clean it when you first receive it, which you would do either way). You just put them in. You can order the BCG/CH from BCM or another place, just pick a reliable set.

Building an upper requires a few more tools than building a lower and is somewhat more complicated. Maybe buy a complete one first and figure out what you want/need and then you can try doing it on your own (or ask a shop to help you) for the second one?

Oh yea I forgot to factor in the extra needs needed to build an upper.
