Build? As in from an 80% paper weight and putting together an upper receiver with the barrel and what not? Or assemble? Like, install the LPK and stock, and slap a complete upper on it?

Probably the latter, but its not too hard to install a lower parts kit, even though you think youre mechanically inclined. Assemble it yourself, so you can customize it with all the parts you like from the get go; instead of buying a basic AR, and changing/switching out parts.

    Basic AR parts list:
    1. lower receiver
    2. bullet button
    3. lower parts kit
    4. stock & buffer assembly
    5. compete upper
    6. rear sight

Then buy lots of mags and ammo, and practice, practice, practice. Have fun!

Definately another vote for building your own. Also improves your knowledge of how it all goes together in the unlikely event that something goes wrong and you have to fix it.

I just sent off funds for a Franklin Armory Homeland Security Carbine w/extra .22LR upper. That was the best choice for me, I don't really have the time to build one up, although I have done so in the past.

          Not necessarily.

Buy the stripped lower, buy a Bullet Button, buy the stock group, buy a complete upper and buy the Lower Parts Kit, which contains the main parts (except stock group) but at a cheaper price. If you buy each part individually, it will come out more expensive.

Advantage of building one: You can put any parts you want. Sorta customizing it yourself: You can buy a stripped lower of one brand, get the LPK from another brand and get the stock from another brand.

Advantage of buying complete: Saves the time on building it yourself.
