Before we or you comment on this rifle any more, please read and think carefully about any more post.

I'm sure you are probably aware that a Mini 14 with a folding stock meets the definition of an assault rifle in the state of California, (rifle with a detachable mag and a collapsible/folding stock or a pistol grip or less than 30" = assault rifle) so if this rifle is located in California it would have had to have been registered with the state as an assault rifle prior to the deadline, and can only be in the possession of the person or persons who registered it?

If it is in your possession in the state of California and it is not registered as a RAW in your name, this would be a big no no, and you might need to find a good attorney, now if your pic just shows it in it's original configuration, and a non folding stock was installed on the rifle prior to the assault rifle registration deadline, thus by making it not fit the definition of an assault rifle then you would be ok.

So if you do own this rifle, and it was not registered, and it is as pictured, I'm going to assume you are a lawful citizen, and the rifle is not currently in the state of Cali in the configuration as pictured, it's probably at a relatives house out of this state right? and you would install a fixed stock or some type of bullet button (converts it to a non detachable magazine) prior to bringing it into the state, right?

But if this rifle is a RAW (registered assault weapon) in your name, it can't be sold, traded or transferred in to any one within the state by you directly, your options would be to have a dealer with an assault weapon license sell it for you to some one who is legal to have it, IE LEO with letter from dept, or that dealer could sale it out of state for you, or if it was reconfigured so it does not meet the definition of a assault rifle , then it's worth what ever a nice older Mini 14 is worth? if that is a factory Ruger folding stock, I'm sure it's worth a pretty penny.

You can no longer register assault rifles.... The time period has long passed. Ummm might want to delete your questions and search the forums for solutions on what youcan do with the rifle....

If I had one I would do exactly as brian said and replace the stock.

best thing to do is take the stock off and replace it with a regular rifle styule stock. You can sell the folder for soem extra $$ or keep it as a collectible- but you must never put it on your gun.

Thanks for the comment Brian. I had no idea it is considered an assault rifle.

Okay here goes, the rifle is actually not in my possession. Its actually my uncles, he got it like 10+ years ago, probably looking at 15 years or so, I am not 100% sure on when he got it and he doesnt remember when exactly. I asked him if its registered but he doesn't know. Now he is in need of money and wants to sell it. I already asked and found out where to register the gun, so what should he do? Should he go register the gun under him if it isn't registered yet or can it not be registered anymore? Since you said there was a deadline.

It can no longer be registered, (there are a few exceptions for Law enforcement officers and a such) I'm going to assume for legal sake, the gun is not in California, all you need to do is to install a fixed stock or some type of bullet button, then it can be in California and legally sold.

My suggestion would be to install a fixed stock, bring it from your relatives house out of state then sale the rifle with the fixed stock, and include the factory folder to some one out of state, you could list it on Gunbroker and then send it to the buyers FFL, you will have to make sure the buyers FFL will accept a firearm from some one with out a FFL, if not you'll have to have a local dealer (FFL) ship it to the buyers FFL.
