Ejection question

Shot my AR for the first time yesterday. I have a carbine BCM upper and I installed the o-ring.

My brass was all landing at exactly 4:00.
The brass landed about 5-6 feet away from me.
However the brass was hitting my rifle on the way out because there was noticeable gold coloring on the part of my rifle with the arrow.

Is my rifle ejecting correctly? Should I try it without the o-ring?

Now you know that the shell deflector works. It's normal, that's why it's there

That's why that part is there, to deflect it away from you.

I was told that pie graph was misleading. The center of the graph needs to be shown as the deflector, NOT the ejection port.

If the firearm is over gassed the case will strike the deflector so hard and so low it bounces FORWARD to the 12-3 position. It doesn't eject forward as the graph suggests.

A good ejection passes from the 3-430 position by a solid center hit on the deflector. It may just kiss it and leave nearly no sign of impact but this is close to short stroking.

A short stroke passes the deflector or just kisses it, it could even just fall out the port.

I was also told this chart is incorrect for some gas systems. Its only valid for one type and I am not sure which type it was good for.

If your shells are landing to your left 4-6 feet away, thats fine. No issue.

you should see where my SKS throws shells, i'd say on average 5' away from 11:00 all the way to 3:00 in front of me most of the time, at one range i even had my own shell shoot up hit the shade roof and come back down and land on my head once, fortunately i was wearing a hat

according to the RSO at one of the ranges commie guns tend to throw shells everywhere and AK-74's are the worst, he said one guy who brought one to the range was throwing shells from the 50 yard rifle range over the berm between the 50 yard and the handgun range and into the handgun range

Based on what you've told us, i say leave it. its ejecting right where its suppposed to.
There should be brass markings on the brass/shell deflector, well, because thats what its supposed to do.

Just make sure not to start a thread about "there is brass markings on this part of my upper! is something wrong with my gun!?!?" lol.

BTW all the cases were landing in a group no larger than a foot in diameter. It was very consistent where they were landing.
