    Tikka T3 Grrrrrrr......

Well I decided to install the Game reaper mount on my T3. I really would like to know what posessed the Tikka people to use PLASTIC filler screws on the receiver. I managed to get three of the four out, but the fourth one stripped the screwdriver slot off off. I know Tikka has their own house brand rings, but this is ridiculous!

Maybe use a small drill bit? Drive it in a tiny bit, just enough to catch, tap it a little, then unscrew it the rest of the way.

BamBam-31's trick should work. Depending on which hole, I think some of the "screws" can just be driven all the way through. The plastic shears so no damage to the hole.

It is plastic...the threads will strip just like the screwdriver slot. It will just fall out the bottom of the receiver.

Thanks Stan. I was hoping you'd weigh in on this. I still can't believe they use plastic screws. Metal ones can't be that expensive.

Trust me.. this is a minor issue and not even really and issue at all. You will not find another bolt gun that performs as well out of the box PERIOD! The only down side to the Tikkas is the limited aftermarket support. Its getting better by the day though.

If you plan on getting into competitive shooting or doing lots of upgrades in the future you might be better off starting with a Remington 700 though.

I think calling it a minor issue is...well, an overstatement.

                    Tikkas are great!

It was just frustrating to me to have the screw head strip off like it did. Stan's "fix" worked just fine, although I used a punch and tapped it with a hammer. Go ahead and get a Tikka, just be aware of the screws when you go to put a scope on it.

Well....for the price of the rifle there are some things that are "cheapened" up a bit. I use a Picatinny rail on mine so it is not an issue. My biggest gripe is the bolt shroud. It ALWAYS cracks. I have owned three T3's, and two of my friends have one each...and their bolt shrouds are cracked too.

Now there are two places to buy aluminum aftermarket shrouds so it is not that big of a deal.

I have owned one or two rifles...and the Tikka's are about the most accurate out of the box rifles you can buy.

                          Take care,Stan
Stan, who are the two who sell the aluminum shrouds?

I had the same issue, installing Talley scope mount. Initially couldn't believe that the screws were plastic. Finally realized that I had to punch them out.

BTW, I have the T3 308 and it is a great shooter.
