    Price of Used vs. New

What should one expect to pay for a lightly used version of a rifle (under 100 rounds fired) that sells for about $2500 new if the used version is in perfect condition?

I am looking at buying a nice AR loaded up with goodies and trying to decide what is the better way to go.

That all depends on the brand, the seller, and the market. No offense, but if you are going to play coy with the brand name, nobody can give you much more than that. If you want a better answer, give us better information.

The market says what can be done. The buyer decides the price, not the seller.

I may pay 2500, you may say its only worth 2000. The seller may say its worth 3000. If no one will pay 3000, the market isn't there.

I think a Magpul China Doll is only worth $100....people pay $2000.00 for them.

I'd say 10 to 20% off for a second hand "as new" item.

Its impossible to say with out details on the rifle. If i were to speculate, if it is 2500 brand new and is not rare or hard to find but widely available her in cali. i would say that i would start asking at 2300 and see what kind of bites i got.

IMO, with the exception of a few calibers/styles of gun, it'd be hard to determine that most guns had only 100rds, 200rds, or 500 rds through it (esp if it was well maintained and cleaned prior to presentation to you).

After all, take a look at how many ARs are being sold with only "200rds down the pipe" on calguns...

My feeling would be to spend no more than 7-80% of the best price YOU could find the product for yourself (and not necessarily what they spent on the gun -- unless that number is lower).
IMO, it doesn't matter what the original owner paid for the gun -- what matters is how much it would cost you to buy the equivalent.

If the gun's MSRP went up (or it became more collectable), 80% of the market price might still make the seller a profit. If he paid too much for that AR, that's his problem and not yours.

The used price is completely dependent on available supply vs demand. For example, if said $2500 firearm doesn't sell well, and there are plenty used for sale, you'd expect as a buyer to pick one up at a significant discount, maybe as good as 40%+ off in an extreme case.

Then there is the opposite side of the coin where there is high demand and very limited supply, like for off roster pistols. Hardly any for sale used, none available new, with good demand for something special like that. On that end its highly likely you will see the used gun selling for MORE than it was when new.

You'll have to figure out where your firearm fits between those extremes to make a guess, since for some reason you don't want to discuss the actual item in question.

Take the market now in homes, economy has hammered them, think the same thing with used market in Firearms...

Believe if the person wants to sell you will get a good buy, if you really want it the seller gets more money... 20% off of discounted IMHO...Not high blue either...

Depends on a lot of factors as noted above. I just sold a LNIB M4 Upper at a small loss but the Saiga 7.62 in my closet gets more valuable due to Izhmash switching their production to military sales and new Saigas are going to be scarce.
