Not to burst your bubble, but POF 308 lowers aren't that uncommon around here. I just sold one a week ago. A standard gen III goes for about $400, not $800-1000.

    That being said...

I have a POF lower with ambi bolt release mated to a DPMS 16" upper with a few odds & ends attached. About the only thing I'm not crazy about is using that steel sleeve on the hinge pin, have debated having the the thing drilled out. I think the holes on the POF lower that would need to be reamed, not the upper. I could be mistaken though, been a while since I looked and it's one of those "out of sight, out of mind" things that doesn't bug me enough to do anything about for now.

Nice setup in your photos, always liked that AR buttstock.

          dfletcher,
You are right in your case which is the POF Lower mating with the DPMS upper. I did it the other way around. I really like that butt stock too and it has the perfect length fully extended for me. The reason why I posted this was because when I looked for a case where the POF Upper was mated to the DPMS lower I couldn't find one except to hear that they fit. Well, now there is a case and people can make decisions on what they should do based on information like I did. I should have put the pictures up with it but it was late. I appreciate people letting me know. I have had several people tell me POF lowers are available all the time but when I was looking that was not the case or I was looking in all the wrong place. I enjoyed the build and wouldn't change a thing based on the results of bullets on target.

So they hogged out the front pivot hole on the upper to make it fit? I thought about that but I was afraid of screwing it up, not much margin for error there I think.

My investigation took me the Patriot Ordnance Factory (POF) direction. My friend has a POF .308 and having shot it, I was hooked for several reasons. The biggest reasons were the accuracy and the gas piston system that reduces recoil and keeps the upper and lower very clean.

Im not a fan of POF, but this is a nice build.

does anybody know if a POF upper will work on a CMMG lower that excepts G3 mags?

i was going to build a full POF .308 but since i have a some G3 mags for my ptr-91 i figure why not have two guns different uses that are magazine compatible.

                  thanks

You'll need to drill out the pivot and takedown holes on the upper. POF 308 rifles(upper and lower) use a standard AR15(223) rear takedown pin, and a proprietary front pivot pin that is Armalite style 308 length but standard 223 diameter. So if you open the holes in the upper to 308 size, you'll be good.

However, the mag area of the upper must be milled out to accept the wider G3 mag.

Info on how to do that is found >>HERE<<
