Can you tell me if this is normal for an ACOG or if it is defective?

I received this ACOG TA31DOC unit from a dealer on a trade. He says it is brand new from Trijicon and the two he got in were in the same condition (I have one of them now).

I want to verify with those others that have a Trijicon if they have seen any of these same marks on the BAC of their Trijicon? It seems to not have any effect on the functionality of the BAC.

I want to make sure this is not "normal" and that if it is defective then if this is something Trijicon would warranty against?

    Thanks guys.

No. That's not normal. Trijicon would never let something leave their shop looking like that.

But to be sure, email them the photos and ask them.

It doesn't look new or normal to me. I've seen the real thing a few times.

I've read that it's not normal when new...but after a short period of time it is very common for that to happen. It is not supposed to cause any problem though...just cosmetic.

My ACOG light pipe doesn't have that issue, it's 3 yrs old and has CLP on it.

I have heard that these light pipes do degrade with DEET (mosquito repellent) on them - manual warns about this too.

We do have the final question - is this a real ACOG, or is it an Airsoft Red Chinese clone toy?

Bill, this looks like a real one. (BTW, I don't think the airsoft ones are advanced to the point to have fiber optic for daylight BAC, and tritium illumination when dark.....)

Hitman, just email the pictures to Trijicon, and see how they can help first, Trijicon is generally VERY GOOD in terms of warranty of their stuff. They covered a couple of a repair/replacement before.

bill, there are no clone companies (as well as I'm aware of for airsoft ) to have produced facogs with a functional light tube. the copies with fake lightubes are usually very obvious to spot out. many just have painted ribs and house a battery in the base

These will show signs of cracks usually after a year or two.

The cable looks consistent with someone having bent it, causing the fractures. Might have been done at the plant during installation, but it shouldn't have been released in this condition.

It doesn't look like sun damage since the plastic looks cristal clear.

Return it to the dealer or call Trijicon.
