    Deciding on a Bolt-action

So I've been looking at getting a bolt-action and I am having a tough time deciding deciding between the three rifles that I have narrowed it down to.
Two of the rifles are used and are in .270 Winchester. One is a Sako M995 it somes with a 3x9 scope. The other one is a Weatherby Vanguard with no scope but it comes with the rings.
The third rifle is a Howa HGR36307DST in .308

I would say, for those prices, get a Savage. Or Remington for that matter. What are you going to use it for?

The Weatherby Vanguard was made by Howa. The Vanguard and the Howa 1500 are the same rifle.

I have to agree with CoyoteHunter. For your price range a Savage is the way to go. Pound for Pound, the Savage is the best bolt gun value on the market.

Out of the box, with no mods, the Sako M995 (TRG-S) would be my pick. However, there is NO aftermarket and the mags cost an arm & leg. But they will SHOOT. As stated the Howa and Weatherby Vanguard are the same rifle (with minor cosmetic differences) and they are also good shooters. The Howa's have adequate aftermarket support.

You need to narrow it down to three Savage models, then choose

First, you need to decide on a round. .270 is great round, but .308 is much more available and comes in MANY different kinds of loads. So, figure out what you are going to use it for, and whether or not you will do your own reloading. If no reloading, I would go .308.

Howa makes darn fine rifles (so does Sako), but the scopes that come on the Howa's (Nikko-Sterling), are really air-soft scopes. I would advise against getting a package deal. Buy the rifle (for less money), and put a decent scope on it for the at least the same money Howa was going to charge you.

                    Just my opinion....

As far as the rifles go, all 3 will work great.

Remington or Savage is a great choice and you will walk away a winner. I prefer Remington...Which I never got rid of my XR100...

Traditionally a Remington Man I was very impressed with Savage Mod. 10
