Adding A2 style front sight to S&W MP15-T

I have an M&P-15T but I want the look of the M&P15-X. Is this something a competent gunsmith could do, ie shorten my existing rail and add the front sight/gas block assembly?

shortening the existing rail will expose some raw aluminum and will need to be refinished. as far as removing the low profile gas block and adding a FSB, any competent gunsmith should be able to do it. its actually easy enough to do it yourself if you have some basic tools.

Possibly find someone with a X upper and see if they want to trade with a T upper and a little cash given to you (or even trade).

I just realized this was a 223, not a 22.
The handguard can be swapped out and a FSB can be installed.
I might even have a carbine handguard that I can trade you for your mid-length handguard...
