    saiga conversion question

I noticed that some people use nylon plugs to cover up the holes in the receiver but in this tutorial in the second to last picture http://www.cross-conn.com/Saiga_Conversion/Step_7.htm binding post are used to cover the holes and to hold a spring. If i use nylon plugs how do i mount this spring? Oh and what is that spring called?

a shepherds crook is the part you need. carolina shooters, possibly dinzag will have them. i do know dinzag has the plugs and they come free with the bullet guide. k var for the stock

why not. the only thing in the way will be your stock. there are two holes on each side total of four holes on the sides of the recever. i thought the whole thing would be confusing but it is very intuitive. once its done, at the no turn back point, you can make it as cherry as you want. weld the holes, or just use the nylon fake rivet option. the ak seems to be very forgiving and gives you the option of creativity. another option is e-clips, but boy i cant ever find them once out of the baggie.

There are many things you can use to retain the fire control group pins. A shephers hook is one, but a reaining plate would be best. I've also used E-Clips with success.

7 seconds with a grinder and a slave pin is all you need to get the BHO back in.

Not necessarily. It is but one a several means of retaining your hammer axle and trigger pins. You can also use a retention plate (which will cost you like 5 bucks) and then there's eclips.

Personally I took the retention plate avenue, and it worked well. The only issue now is that I'm stuck finding something to plug the holes left in the rear of the receiver.

Dude, use a freaking retaining plate instead of the wire POS.

On my rifle conversion I used an internal stock adapter that actually uses those 4 holes on the side, so no stupid adapter hanging off the back that most people have, and no holes that need to be filled with nylon plugs or welded. Its the top gun on my sig pic, and I think it turned out rather well

                    I second that...

Use the retaining plate. It holds the pins in better, is easier to get in and out, and wont bend or break like the bent paper clip they call the 'shepards crook"...And for only a few dollars more you can have the peace of mind that your pins wont (cant) come out..that the plate provides...and the nylon plugs pop right in with a lil effort, and look like real rivets. if you buy something from Dinzag Arms, he throws in a bag of those lil plugs with every order of Saiga or AK parts...

REMEMBER: The Cross-Conn conversion is over 10 years old. The laws he refers to are gone. And companies now make and sell many of the parts he refers to. Use a newer site to convert, go to the Saiga-12 forum, theres lots of links on Saiga conversions, and lots of NEWER writeups and videos than the Cross-conn one...
