Legal to buy and possess 30 round 'Preban' magazines?

    Hey all,
I'm looking to get some 10/30 round magazines for my newly built AR15. Is it true that it's legal to buy and possess true 30 round preban magazines? I want to know the facts before I buy the 10 round mags that just look like 30 round mags.

    Thanks!

I believe so, if you have a featureless AR that is.

It's illegal to offer for sale, sell, manufacture or import magazines that hold more than 10 rounds.
You can buy "parts kits" that are un-assembled.
You can not assemble them into a mag that holds more than 10 rounds.
You can assemble them into a mag that only holds 10 rounds though.

It is legal to possess magazines that hold more than 10 rounds.

You can USE mags that hold more than 10 rounds in a featureless build if you had the mags before the mag ben went into effect in 2000.

            What's the definition of featureless?

I have a an AR15 with a bullet button... also a pistol grip. Is the pistol grip a 'feature'?

yours is probably loaded with evil features. Featureless rifles must not include pistol grip, telescoping or folding stock, flash hider, grenade/flare launcher and forward pistol grip. an evil rifle with a bullet button can not at any time use a full capacity magazine.

buying, selling, importing and manufacturing of 30 rounds magazines is illegal regardless of date of manufacturing. you need to already have owned it before 2000 for you to legally use them in your featureless. you can buy rebuilt kits legally but assembling them (not rebuilding a legally owned preban) constitutes manufacturing which is illegal.

bottom line, if you dont already own any prebans by now, forget about it.

or just google it. even wikipedia has some relevant info.

screwed? if not being able to use 30 rounds magazines means being screwed then yes. you can buy rebuild kits and only assemble them when you go shooting out of state. make sure they are completely disassembled before returning to CA.

That depends on your skills with the ladies.
                        Perhaps you won't get screwed...
Not enough info here to tell.

You're not getting any new large capacity magazines in CA though.

In shot, legal to possess, not to buy/transfer.

Can you only own the same amount of rebuild mag kits as the same amount of pre ban mags that you owned from before, or can you own as many rebuild mag kits as you want?
