Do outdoor ranges allow Brown Bear FMJ's 7.62x39?

The description says it is steel/lead-cored. Is this a no no at ranges? Thanks in advance.

This is excellent quality 7.62x39mm ammo, using the standard 123 gr bi-metal, steel/lead-cored, and copper-jacketed FMJ bullet. This mil spec round is Berdan primed and non-corrosive using there new polymer coated case. It is packaged 20 rds to a box, 500 rds to a case. This is current 2010 production from the JSC Barnaul plant in Russia labeled under the Brown Bear name for us AK & SKS shooters in the good ole USA!

What range are you hoping to use it at? I've never had a problem using the stuff up in the Bay Area.

Every range is different.
Most organized ranges won't allow steel jacketed ammo for fear of sparks starting a fire when you hit steel plates or rocks.
You have to go out to the desert to shoot the steel jacketed ammo.

Lytle creek, CA. Last time I was there they were testing out shooters ammo for steel core.

Go to the website of the range you want to shoot at. If they don't allow steel core, they'll usually mention it.

Yeah they don't allow steel core. So I guess brown bear is a no go. That sucks I just found a decent deal on them too.

I also found a deal for some mil surplus yugo 1260 case corrosive for $200 + 50 shipping. Is this a good deal?

That's not bad, I got mine for like 220 + 25 shipping. Check out JG sales and Copes. It's good ammo, shoots fine, but it does stink and is corrosive, so clean well.

Burro doesn't allow magnetic ammo in the summer. However they said magnetic ammo isn't too much of a worry once we start getting some rain. So Burro will be good to go once summer is over.

I was at burro last week(private range) and they(the guy that comes around doing ammo checks) said my wolf/silver bear/brown bear was a no go now (summer time) and also a no go during the winter. Looks like there making some changes I had to use my remington 7.62x39

Last time I was up there they didn't give a rip about that. It must be a fairly new thing.

The projectiles in Brown Bear 7.62x39 ammo are lead core with copper-washed steel jackets. It is illegal to import or manufacture steel core 7.62x39 ammo now and has been for over 15 years.

People are always confusing the terms "steel jacketed" and "steel cored", so you never know what the rangemaster might say when you get there. Both types of ammo pose a fire danger, so it is odd for a So-Cal outdoor range to ban one type and not the other. If they are checking your ammo with a magnet then both types of ammo will fail the test.

I understand the difference between steel cased and steel cored. It's just this website says "steel/lead-cored" in the description.
