    (AR10 Question) Bolt "snap"

Ok, I'm trying to find the best way to describe this.

on my AR15 bolt, when I hold the bolt carrier upside down the bolt stays in place till I give it a little "snap" with my wrist and it flicks out. It also doesn't come back in when I reverse the direction (bolt up)

(I hope I'm describing this well, but I think most of you know what I'm talking about)

Anyway, I accept this as "normal" and a good sign I have a good gas rings, etc.

    So, I've got a new (slightly used, less than 100 rounds) AR10. It's a Noveske N6.
Now when I take the bolt out of there and hold it upside down it takes just a little jiggling to let is slide out. Also it'll slide back in way easier than say the AR15.

Is this normal in the AR10 bolt carrier group? Or should it be the same as the AR15? It seems a LOT more loose.

I checked it over, the rings are fine (like I said it's almost new) the bolt and carrier are straight from Noveske...

    Thanks,
    B.

take the bolt out and check to make sure the gas rings arent proken and or missing. bolt might just be a little loose in the carrier. if so its not much of a problem. does it still lock up and go into battery okay?

First thing I did, yup. They look brand new. Still shiny in fact.

It hasn't been test fired yet. I'm going to try and make it up to Richmond Rod and Gun (Bay Area)early Sat morning and see how it does.

AR-10 bolts are much heavier and are naturally looser than the lockup on an ar15 bolt.
        Perfectly Normal.

Yup my armalite ar10 bolt is also exactly as you describe and I thought the same thing. Perfectly normal.

You don't get the same centrifugal force from the "snap" when you turn the bolt carrier around because the bolt is in the palm of your hand.
