Drum magazine without any internals. Legal or illegal in rifle?

I'm making a small film and plan on using a rifle with high caps, specifically a drum mag. The rifle will be real, but the drum mag will have absolutely no springs, followers or any sort of internals. Btw the rifle will have a couple evil features.

    Will this be ok?

    Wow, you're quite a boyscout!

Let me get this right, you're taking apart a drum mag you've owned before 2000?

If it does not function as a magazine that holds 10 plus rounds, it isnt an illegal hi cap magazine.

If you really wanna play it safe (and you should if you are planning on filming with real rifles) pull the firing pins too.

This. Use airsoft if at all possible, no legality problems, no risk of blowing away anyone you don't want to, no risk of getting an expensive rifle jacked...
