If you can't find one made of Unobtanium check on Gunbroker and other sites for the old DPMS stainless steel receivers. DPMS stopped making them a couple of years ago but you occasionally see them for sale.

The Strongest Lower

Look for a forged lower made from 7076-T6 aluminum alloy with Type III Hard Anodizing. That's the most durable lower you're going to be able to find. Even though it seems like there are many lower manufacturers, in actuality there are only a few companies that have the dies and machinery to forge the lowers. These raw forging are then sold to many companies for finish machining. Even then many sub-contract out some or all of this machining since the magwell needs to be broached out.Alright I'm in search of the strongest AR lower receiver money can buy. I'd like to get one that is touted for the super strong type of aluminum it uses. This got brought on because I bought a SOG Armory lower and the gap for the bolt catch/release is too wide and now the bolt release has a very pronounced side to side movement. The lower was brand new when I bought it and I dont know whether it came from the factory that way or my gunsmithing skills are terrible
. Either way, waduya got?Luck favors the prepared.

This. There's no point in having a "stronger" AR lower. About all it does is hold the FCG in more or less the right place relative to the upper.sigpicNRA MemberOriginally posted by Deadbolt"We're here to take your land for your safety"

Sounds like your confusing "stronger" with "Machined to proper specs." There is only 1 or 2 people forging blanks (Alcoa and perhaps someone else like Reynolds). But any yahoo with a CNC machine can make chips, the question is are they machined to spec. Anybody ever measured up the dozens of OLL manufactured lowers and see how close to the prints they are being made?Comment

Thanks for all the responses guys. I bought the lower from my LGS and was buying my Ruger PC40 at the same time so Id only have to fill out the(drawing a blank) form once for both guns. So I scooped it up. It was either sog or KD and I don't like the logo for KD. I think I'm goin to go with something in the 7000 series aluminum. But I got the lower and started building with quality parts and found my lower of all things was the weak link. I created a tiny brass washer to slide between the bolt catch and that tightened it up substantially.Originally posted by G-forceJunkieI dont know the dia. of the slugs or that choke, but it looks like it simply was too tight of a fit."I'm here for the gang-bang."Comment
