    .243 Barrel advice

I am ordering my action this weekend.

    Savage - Matte Black - Model 10FP - Accu-Trigger - Tactical Action - .473 Bolt Face - Light Weight Accu-Trigger (11/2 - 6lb).

Did a search and some surfing. So far I found a lot of sold out/90 lead time, so on and so forth, and here have seen Shilen and Pac-Nor mentioned. I will call them next week. Can anyone offer up any more knowledge as to who makes barrels for a savage. I am looking to get a 24'-26' heavy barrel chambered in .243 win. Midway is limited on what they carry and thats if they are even in stock for any given caliber. I definitely do not want a fluted barrel. Totally defeats the purpose of getting a bull barrel. Any opinions are greatly appreciated.

Besides the two makers you mentioned, check out www.eabco.com They make pre-threaded and chambered barrels for the savage. I don't know whose blanks they use, but I've read good reports. I think they even have a 1 in 8 twist in the 243 that you would need for the heavy 105 amax and 115 dtac bullets. Good luck!

Thank you very much. I will check them out. I am not very patient. Dont think I could stand to wait 3 months or more for a barrel. 10 is hard enough each time.

Eabco's were made by ER Shaw, last time I checked. They are on par with factory barrels.
PacNor is usually a 4-8 week wait but they are a big step up in quality. Especially in their Supermatch. They also offer custom chambers like tight necks and a bunch of wildcats.
Shilen makes great pre-fit barrels also but I don't know their lead time.
Sharp Shooter Supply usually has prefit Douglas match barrels in stock.
Lothar Walther USA makes great prefit Savage barrels also

Good info, Frank. Read some reports of a 1 in 8 Lothar Walther barrel not being a 1 in 8. Someone on snipershide I think that couldn't even stabilize a 105 amax. Turned out it was close to 1 in 10. Heard anything like this?

I hadn't heard it but at least on a Savage you can take it off yourself and send it back to Woody and have him replace it.
