Magpul PRS AR-10 Cheek Adjustment - Worthwhile?

For those who have an AR-10 with the Magpul PRS, do you find the cheek piece of any real benefit? It is pretty far back and shortened vs the stock for the AR-15, and have reservations about it being it being useful at all. See here for differences.

Would love to check out the fit if someone in the San Francisco bay area has an AR-10 with PRS and is willing to let me hold their rifle. Opinions and experiences posted here would still be quite helpful.

I don't know what you are talking about it being pretty far back as it's right where your cheek will be resting.

Perhaps you have been shooting an AR-15 incorrectly without actually stretching out the collapsible stock to the proper length?

I had one before and it worked just fine for me. I wouldn't even buy the 223 version if i were building a 223 personally. The added length of the 223 version is useless and the 308 version can be used with both!

Just picked up another one last week for my newest build

the adjustable check rest is shorter to allow the charging handle enough room to be used correctly. I use it on my AR-10 and it works out great for me. It helps balance the rifle by putting some more weight to the rear and provide a good cheek weld for me. You can use the PRS ar-10 model interchangably between the ar-10 and the ar-15. The ARS is only for the AR-15 models as the cheek piece is larger to accomodate the smaller length of pull on the AR-15 charging handle

A fair number of people have stated that the PRS cheekpiece is too far back to be of any use (especially the AR10 variant). Some shoot NTCH (Nose To Charging Handle), which makes this more problematical. I wanted to try one to see how it fits me.

          My AR15 uses an A2 stock (non-collapsible).

If you use a scope and mount it accordingly with the eye relief it works out just fine.

I have a leupold M3 on a larue mount with the PRS and have no issues using it.

I think if your using the PRS how it was meant to be used... (precision rifle stock) then your nose will be nowhere near the CH. It also means that your cheek ends up right where the riser is too.

Yes, very useful. I have handled an AR 10 with one as well as have one on my AR 15. It is fully adjustable and versatile. A lot of people don't think it is all it is cracked up to be, but then again several people don't care to fit their rifle exactly to themselves. The PRS does just that

Works well for me whether AR-10 or AR-15 (6.5 Grendel). They are on the heavy side so I only use them on my precision builds.
