Legal?: Rebuilding USGI Magazines Into Beta & Quad-stacks?

I've seen questions about this before on the threads, but never seen an actual analysis if this would fly.

I've got tons of old USGI 30-round magazines I use with my featureless rifle. I keep intending to repair/replace parts for them 'someday soon', but then some of the mention about rebuilding high-cap mags got under my skin. According to the current law, there's nothing that says I can't make each and every one of these a Beta C-Mag or the new Magpull Quad-Stacks (assuming they get released) from rebuild kits, am I reading that right?

It's just hard for me to believe, and though it's highly unlikely I could afford to cause I am not made of hundred-dollar bills, it's seems to me a kind of a giddy thought that I could do this to even just one of my aged aluminum magazines.

Is this really kosher? *dreaming of a Beta-C rebuild kit now*

It could be done by standing so close to the letter of the law that you may get burned in the fly-by.

You would need to reword what you are thinking of doing for one thing. You would need to SHUT UP for another.

yes rebuilding a high cap that was 30 into one of a 30+ is the same thing...but telling me you are going to take a USGI 30rd and rebuild it into a 100rd C-mag....

The fact you are asking means you do not know what keeps your from becoming a FELON.

    HINT-
ABSENT CONFESSION, ABSENT STATEMENTS, ABSENT EVIDENCE, no charges can be filed
The second they have even one of the above, an investigation riping your life apart can take place.

I have an idea...how about just remember this.

There isn't any evidence that rebuilding a hi-cap magazine into another hi-cap magazine fitting the same weapon is against the law as it stands. It may be right up close to the "gray area" of magazines, but I wouldn't feel compelled not to do it for fear of the law.

So lets walk down this road...

        "Where did you get this!?"

I had a USGI 30rd mag. The Body is cracked. I must repair the magazine by replacing it. I removed the plate and spring/follower. then attempt to insert them into a 100rd drum magazine...and it just doesnt work so well. So I grabbed a new 100rd drum spring and used it. Damm, now the plate doesnt fit right...I will just use the 100rd drum side cover.

Oh look, my old cracked USGI 30rd magazine is now a 100rd Drum.

        I have a better way.

        Here it is

        "Where did you get this!?"

Don't ruin your old GI hicaps. They will never run right if you mod them into a beta drum. And don't ruin for the rest of us by bringing undo attention by LEO's and powers that be in CA.

Dieselpower, you obviously didn't read very carefully. I already stated I was skeptical and found it hard to believe as to the legality of this. I asked if anyone else knew something I did not as to the legality of this. A simple explanation of your point of view without stepping into paranoid hostility would have been fine.

Day-dreaming aside, I'm not doing anything with my mags anytime in the foreseeable future simply because money's tight and it's better spent elsewhere. I thank you for your input, but if you're going to get this worked up by a simple question, perhaps you should have just moved along and not bothered answering at all, ehn? I don't know what your reasons were, but you came off as a total paranoid LE-hating tinfoiled jerk in the way you answered.

If anyone actually can cite links and information I can examine for either case: pro or con; then I'd be grateful for the info. That's all I really wanted.

I dont think there is any info on the matter as it sounds way too risky.

Most likely though you wont be bothered for having the mag as the beta c mags were available in CA before the ban. As far as taking the risk with LEO your in the same boat if you have anything larger then a 10 round body.

Last I saw there was a couple of beta c mag kits for sale in CA.
