Wow that's a really nice looking Japanese Arisaka. Nice to see one not bubba'd.

            Definitely a Type 99 Arisaka.

The finish looks suspiciously like a reblue to me though- it looks almost like parkerizing or matte blue, which was not used in Japan.

            I'd pay $100 if I needed another (I don't!)!

That would be a not-late model Arisaka type-99 with the mum ground off. Other things that are immediately obvious is that the dust cover and wire monopod were removed, and the rear sight is missing the bars for the "anti-aircraft" sights. However it does still have the cleaning rod. If you can get a good photo of the left side of the receiver with the serial number and all the other stampings, then I can get you much more detailed information.

Depending on the series would define if it is a tranistional Type 99 or if it had the AA wings and monopod removed. as you said it does depend on the markings on the left side of the reciever

So where is the rifle located? Is it in Colton? I'm in the SFV and interested in it.
