HOW TO RESTAIN AK FURNITURE?

HELLO EVERYONE
I WANT TO SAND AND RESTAIN MY AK FURNITURE. IS IT DONE WITH REGULAR STAIN AND THEN A POLYURETHANE TO SEAL IT OR HOW? HAS ANYONE DONE THIS BEFORE THAT CAN GIVE ME SOME ADVICE?

I USED RED RIT DYE. MIXED WITH HOT WATER, SUBMERGED THE STRIPPED AND BLEACHED STOCK IN IT. CAME OUT ALMOST PINK, BUT LOOK VERY NICE WITH HIGH GLOSS POLY.

THANKFULLY IT GOT ALOT DARKER WITH THE POLY COAT. OTHERWISE IT WOULD BE MY WIFES RIFLE, ALTHOUGH IF YOU ASK HER IT IS ANYWAY.

Anyways, I'm hoping when I get some money and turn 21 to get a M16-A4. Obviously if you have played MW2 that is why I really want that gun.

When I redid my AK furniture I just hit it will some Acetone to strip the wood, got some 100 grit and 220 grit going on the wood, then I slapped some Expresso stain to it (I left the wood a little red so I could get a brown/plum color) and a couple clear coats:

Throw a bullet button and you can put basically whatever you want on there.

If you want stains that will duplicate nearly any blonde, red, brown colors, look into guitar refinishing stains. i.e. ever notice how the finish on cherry, tobacco sunburst guitars look a lot like the original russian AK furniture stains?

You have a lot to learn. You can customize a rifle into any one of an endless number of configurations and still be California legal. If you choose to break the law and make an illegal weapon, you are a fool and deserve every inch that Bubba is going to give you.
