    AR barrel thread?

    Hi guys,

I'm going to be getting my suppressor can for my AR in the next couple of months, and I'm probably going to get a quick disconnect version.

That will entail taking off my "flash hider" and install the QD adapters.

Before I try and tear up my barrel by doing it wrong, which way do the threads go?

There is what looks like a crush washer below the hider, but it also covers the threads so I can't tell which way they go! But there are 'flats' to grab with a pair of pliers or vice too.

Looking down the barrel from the exit end, does the hider come off CW (right) or CCW (left)? And, are there any 'best methods' out there for me to use so I don't scratch up, or otherwise mess up my gun?

This is a CMMG lightweight barrel and upper if that matters.

    Any help is appreciated!

lefty loosey, righty tighty. best way to take it off is use a upper receiver action block, an AR multi tool (or wrench), and a vise.

Ok, that's what I thought, but knowing my luck, it would really be a left-hand thread and I would twist the barrel and break it before loosening the flash hider!

      Thanks man!

Don't use a crush washer with your new suppressor mount.
Your new mount should come with shims if indexing is required.

Crush washers will not keep the mount square on the barrel.
If the mount is not square, there's a chance of bullets striking the baffle.
This will really ruin your day when you destroy your new can...

Good point Randy! I hadn't thought of that! I'll definitely keep that in mind!

I'm looking at either the Advanced Armament Ranger 2 (most likely), Yankee Hill Phantom, or Gemtech Halo. All come highly recommended, near equal performance, just a matter of price!

Go with Halo. It wil mount to anything withan A2.

Have Randall check your threads and make sure they're concentric with the bore, also have him install shims on an A2.

The AAC is a thread on so if you do end up with that, still have the threads checked.
The YHM is probly a QD hider? So the above will still apply...have it checked.

Go with the Halo, I can't stress that enough.

If I lived in a free state it would be a toss up between a Surefire,Advanced Armament or a Knights Armament. I saw a youtube video of a Gemtech coming apart during a test.
