Hey guys, here's a project I'm working on - the object is not so much "practical" as "just for the hell of it". I managed to snag a great little rifle in an auction recently. It's a Marlin Model 62 Levermatic in .30 carbine. Now, this rifle and the round itself (in popular terms at least) are a couple bygone favorites from yesteryear, the rifle itself being mfr'd between '66 and '69 and the surplus .30 carbine being a popular round with shooters because it was so cheaply available at that time, having been phased out for the most part in military service. What's more, I have a freshly refurbished Redfield Widefield 4x fixed scope, which were available in the early 70's. So, to mate these up in a "period appropriate" fashion, what would you experienced (ahem, geezers? LOL) shooters who remember that era recommend for good SOLID rings? I have used Burris Signature on my other scoped rifles but would like to avoid the plastic. I have a mounting rail - maybe not the MOST era-specific thing but hopefully that will be my largest concession to modernity with this gun. I want to keep the scope mounted as low as possible.
Any tips or suggestions? Oh, here's the rifle:
