If you supply good parts, Century Gun Works in Gardnerville, NV (and not to be confused with Century Arms crap!!) will build you a great FAL.

Rich Saunders takes great pride in his product. Rich/CGW work can be seen at http://www.cgwgun.com - look for "FAL gunsmithing", "FAL assembly", etc. for more details.

My frankenFAL, a reg'd AW, was reassembled/refinished by Rich@CGW and started life as:
    • new Imbel upper receiver
    • new Israeli FALO *heavy* barrel/front end
    • near-new STG58 lower & many new small parts
    • DSA screwed-down Picatinny rail (not a compliance part!)
    • whole rifle refinished in manganese phosphate, lettering filled in w/white plastic

My wooden Izzy FALO front handguards were coated (not painted) with one of his finishes, and the color/texture matches that of the plastic buttstock and pistol quite nicely.

The orig. Izzy HB FALs seemed to sometimes serve in a role akin to that played by the BAR elsewhere.

I used seven US 922(r) compliance parts:
    • DSA US-mfgd hammer/trigger/sear
    • DSA US-mfgd pistol grip
    • DSA US-mfgd charging handle
    • Penguin US-mfgd buttstock
    • Gunthings USA-mfgd muzzle brake

It's a heavy mofo but it's a nice shootin' rifle.

Well, that certainly added a lot to the discussion.

We've had a lot of customers choose to purchase their AKs and other rifles through us because we actually take the time to pull the guns out of the boxes and inspect them before putting them up for sale. We've returned rifles that haven't met our standards, whether they were AKs with severely canted front sights or C93s with headspacing problems that were so bad the rifles wouldn't fire.

If there ARE problems with the firearm, it comes back to us for repair or warranty replacement. That's one of the selling points with us, as many other distributors have a "you bought it, it's your problem to deal with" type of customer service.

So maybe our certification doesn't mean **** to you, but to plenty of other folks it carries some weight and it means that we will stand behind the products we sell.

The one I'm thinking of actually functioned as a muzzle brake.

best advice I could give would be to post your question on the fal files.

I wouldn't hesitate to purchase a Henderson certified firearm. They are a reputable shop and it's hard to beat their prices.

I would generally prefer a gun made to my order by a smith with a great rep...CGW and GunPlumber are a couple, there are more. Otoh, my cost is going to be greater than one built by Century and tested by Henderson...it's nice to have a choice.

That said, I have built more than a dozen over the years, when upper receivers were <$250 and great (read virtually unissued) kits ran about the same in cost. I love 'em all.

If you're not up to build your own, and/or you're looking at a budget number, the CAI gun from Henderson will work very well, go 'bang' each time you pull the trigger, and allow you to upgrade it as needed. I'll leave you by saying that the FAL Fetish is a LOT harder to cure than the AR15 inspired Black Rifle Disease...you definitely will want another.

+1 on Rich at CGW in Gardnerville, NV. Take a look at his work on the web and call him to get a feel for what's out there. You wont regret it. Also, check out the FALFiles for more info. Don't automatically dismiss Century there are some good ones out there.

Here is a poor picture of my DSA Paratrooper (california version) with my grip wrap, scope, chin rest, and droppable featureless magazine. The stock is shimmed so it cannot be folded. It will fold and not have a grip wrap when the stupid AWB goes away however.
