    .300WSM

Anyone have any experience in shooting the .300 Winchester Short Magnum cartridge? How is it on recoil? Crazy loud? Flat shooter right? Opinions on the round?

I have one and have never fired it yet. I was told by experts that it is compatible with 300 Win Mag with slightly less recoil. Accuracy should be very good. I have loaded 20 rounds, but never had a chance to shoot it yet.

260 yards with a 180 grain Nosler Partition.

150 yards with the same load.

I like my 270 wsm well enough, but wish I got the 300 because it seems so much more popular and more wgts available. U will like it.

I have several. Up to 190 grains, similar to a 300 win mag. The recoil is sharper that its big brother, like a 30-06 rather than a push 300 win mag. I would suggest at least a Decelerator pad, but would pair it with a good muzzle brake. If you pair the 2 recoil reducers, it kicks like a 223 bolt gun, IMHO. Twist rates are also compitable if you're building a custom.

Accuracy wise, I can't tell. I don't have a custom 300 win to compare it to. According to bench shooters, it is supposed to be more accurate than the 300 win because the case design is similar to a PPC design. But heck, I wouldn't know. I do like the catriage and the rifles I shoot it out of.

Hope this helps a little. Good luck. You should be happy with it.

I have a Savage 12BVSS in 300 WSM. Heavy target rifle weighted down to about 15 lbs. Still gives a pretty good belt, shoots the 168s and 190s very well, easy to reload. Really nothing to dislike in the round. Keeps up (IIRC) with the 300 WM until you hit the 180s and 190s I think.

              I have a Winchester 70 Coyote Lite in 270WSM.

It is my hunting rifle and it excels in that role. Terminal performance is devastating. My last deer literally looked like it was hit with a sledgehammer at 150 yards...

The downsides of the rifle are that it kicks like a mule, especially on the 7lb Coyote Lite, and the ammo is expensive to shoot.

If you are going to actually hunt with them the WSM family are oustanding.

IF you are going to go to the range and shoot paper they are a poor choice. The 270 and 300 will beat you up without a good muzzle brake (Im actually having Randall put a Badger Ordnance Thruster on mine as soon as it arrives) and they are expensive to shoot except for the re-loader.

              Have fun.
