    ak-47/saiga on hold?

i called a los angeles gun store to inquire about getting an arsenal sgl-21 transferred, and was surprised to find that they no longer carry saigas or AK style rifles. when i was there 2-3 weeks ago, they still carried the CA legal saiga with the rifle stock. he explained in some length about how the DOJ has stated that all kalashnikov style actions are illegal, and that's why they're too hot to handle. ARs were apparently just fine. go figure.

there doesn't seem to be any info on this on DOJ's site, and not so much on calguns either. is this just BS, or have you heard of this? aside from the crimp it puts in my saiga purchase, this is just nonsense.

    FUD

    Riflegear
    OC Armory
    Ammo Bros
    Ades Gunshop
    CWS

These are just shops off the top of my head that I know can hook you up. Then there are out of state dealers that you can buy from like DDs Ranch, Atlantic, and Peach State.

Maybe the store you went to was told that "Kalashnikov USA" marked Saigas were illegal to buy. This is true since it is a listed AW.

However, Russian American Armory is now importing the Saigas and these are legal. Just make sure you are not purchasing the "Kalashnikov USA" Saiga.

Sounds like something they would say at Martin B. Retting - they just recently took a 180 degree turn on their "you're going to jail!!" stance for AR's (now the sell them.) It wouldn't surprise me if they saw the Kalashnikov Saiga on the AW list and decided that anything marked Saiga is no go...

Either way, new Saiga's are just fine and there are plenty of FFL's in the area that will be happy to make the transfer for you.

Total FUD! That's just silly. Places like Big 5 are selling CASARs (I'm sure most have seen the thread about it) how can this guy claim that a Saiga is illegal because of its action?!
