    Vertical Foregrips

Are foregrips legal in cali or when you put them on your gun does it become an "assault weapon" Here is an example of one. http://gggaz.com/products/vertforegrip.php

Depends. If you are putting it on a fab-10 or vulcan ca lower it or something with a fixed mag. it is ok. If you are putting it on a rifle with a detachable mag it is a big NO NO

By detachable mag do you mean like a SU-16 or AR mag?

On firearms that are not already considered an "Assault Weapon" either by trait or by name, the addition of the vertical grip could possibly "change" into one that is designated an AW. I would be extremely careful about this. If you already have a registered AW it's a moot point.

Look, unless you already have a registered "assault weapon" in CA, you can NOT put a vertical foregrip on a centerfire, semi-automatic rifle that has a detachable magazine. THEREFORE, you can't put a vertical foregrip on an M1A, Mini-14, mini-30, su-16, etc. (well, you could, but it would be a felony to do so.).

I'm fairly confident a trial court would find a mag catch to be part of the weapon itself.

HOWEVER, the DOJ (*and* CA state legislature) explicetly considers a round of ammunition to be a tool!

I would buy it and keep it in my pocket. You know, as a battery holder. It may even hold a small cigar.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but this was the most recent one I found with information on vertical grips.

I have not been able to get a straight answer on whether or not vertical grips are not allowed on a semi-auot rifle w/ detachable mag. The posts above say no way, but the Calguns AR/AK FAQ specifically says:

Based on the bolded section above, does that mean a non-pistol grip type vertical foregrip would be acceptable?

NO. Unless you have a fixed mag, dont pug anything on the barrel that could be considered a grip.
