Ammo Issues

I brought my new stag out to the desert and tried shooting some brass PMC brand ammo through it with bad luck...The first round would fire then the shell would not eject requiring a rod to force the shell out. I tried it again and the same thing happened. It seemed like the round was not seating all of the way when the firing pin would hit and then the shell would expand and get stuck.

Then i shot wolf ammo through it fine using the same magazines...and it worked perfect.

Any thoughts?

Actually, I had the exact opposite happen in my V-15. The Wolf apparently did not expand/constrict in my chamber because the Wolf is steel-cased. Ever since then, I only use brass casings (either my own reloads or I have NO trouble @ all w/ remington or federal factory ammo. I also found that using a lighter projectile was very consistent (52-55gr.). How heavy are those PMC's?

I had short stroking issues with Black Hills 52gr HPs from Turners this weekend on my RRA M4gery. Work flawlessly with Wallymart Remington FMJs though.

I use remington 55 grain UMC and it has never given me problems....Its cheap and works well

I will lube and clean the heck out of it and the magazine and see if it helps. Maybe i need to polish the mag edges? Thanks for the input.

It only happened to the PMC ammo. It got really stuck. i had to really pound the rod to get the shell out. With my new gun, will the headspace be off?

That Black Hills 52gr. ammo will short stroke and jam most ARs, it's made with bolt action hunters in mind. Although I have seen some ARs cycle it. Get some of the 62gr. HPs (not sure if Black Hills has a 62gr HP but I'd imagine so, if not, other companies do).

The Black Hills 77gr. SMK is a delight, I'd shoot nothing but that if I could afford it, and anyone that tells you you can't shoot 77gr in a standard AR is full of ****, that's military propaghanda because the 77gr is so hard to come by they don't want anyone other than the SDMs and SOCOM guys using it. It is a little harder on the barrel over the long run, but it won't give you any issues.

PMC is just questionable ammo, theres a reason they went out of business.

Your headspacing should have been checked if the upper was built for you, but you can check it yourself if you're not sure, or have a gunsmith do it. Brownells and MidwayUSA both sell go/no-go gauges for .223.

The ammos that i have shot that work fine in my gun are Remmington and wolf. Maybe i will buy a few different kinds and see if they work. If not, i should probably stick to what works.

I happen to have 223 go/no-go gauges. If you remind me prior to the next Iron Sights run, I'll let you check your rifle with them on-premises. I don't loan 'em out, though.
