Tiny blue plastic thing in AR lower parts set

What is it for? I never saw this in Uncle Sam's A2's. I got two spare/emergency part selection kits each had this tiny blue plastic cone shaped piece. I'm wondering if it's some new upgrade I'm supposed to install somewhee?

I think it goes inside the spring that is under the sear.

It is the extractor spring insert. The blue ones are for Rifle or mid length gas systems, and the black ones are for carbine gas systems. Most spare part kits I seen have the blue ones.....

Thats the insert for your extractor spring. It goes inside the spring and helps provide stiffness to the extractor. Blue is used in rifles, black is for carbines. The black colored insert is all around best in any AR.
If you never removed the extractor from the bolt, you may have never noticed it, or it was a black colored insert and easy to miss.

Don't run your rifle without it, you will get failures to extract.

why would an extractor insert be in a lower parts kit?
"It wasn't a failure of laws," said Amanda Wilcox, who along with her husband, Nick, lobbies for the California chapter of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. "I just don't see how our gun laws could have stopped something like that."
