Help Decide which .223 to Purchase

Hey guys I'm looking to purchase my first .223 since I currently only own handguns and was wondering if I could get some opinions. I'm not looking for anything particular just something my father and I can have fun shooting targets with. I have read a little about mini 14's and Remington 700 sps. What other good rifles are there that you guys can recommend for a budget of around $600?

Check out the Kel Tec SU-16. Good plinking rifle, uses standard AR Mags, and really fun to shoot. Check the prices for Mini 14 mags and you will be thankful you went with the Kel-Tec

Here is a link to a website that sells it.

The SU-16CA is a hybrid of the SU-16C and SU-16A rifles. It comes with the same 16-inch barrel with Chrome-lined bore and chamber and 1/2-28 threads as the C model. All f

Gonna need to narrow it down a bit. Are you looking for an autoloader? Bolt action? Tactical play, range use or hunting?

There's a bunch of great guns out there...

Bolt-action: Remington 700 (lots of variants of this one) or Savage 10FP
            Autoloader: Mini-14 or AR-15

Best bang for your buck is probably the Remington...

I will not be hunting just going to the range. I would think an auto loader would be preferred.

How much you looking to spend? Cause if you buy a new Mini 14 you can pretty much build a AR-15, around the same price.

I was thinking about an AR-15 but I can't get over the ca legal neutered versions. I never thought of building an AR.

I would like to buy new. About building an AR-15, would it still have to have a fixed mag?

You could go two routes with the AR-15:

-Build it with all the evil features you want, and use a mag locking device like a bullet button.

-Build a featureless rifle (no flash-hider, collapsible stock, pistol grip, forward grip, etc.), and be able to freely drop mags.

I don't know squat about building guns, is it relatively easy or could I have someone build it for me at a gun shop perhaps?
