    Bullet Button vs MMG

so im building my AR soon i wanted to put a MMG on it for detachable mags but id like to have a forward grip on it so if i have a bullet button i can do that but i was wondering.

Is it that hard to drop mags with the bullet button? and if you drop the mag is it considered a AW as soon as you drop the mag?

The bullet button makes it a fixed magazine. It is not an AW once the mag is dropped, since it requires a tool to drop it.

The BB is easy to use.

That being said, I've heard nice things too about the MM grip and my next OLL will have one. Then I'll be able to use my legal pre-ban hi-caps.

Did you get a chance to read Bill's FAQ that I pointed you to last night? That will answer a lot of these questions and save you some time, etc.

Just remember - with the BB you are limited to 10 round mags - even if you have some pre-bans - you can't use them with a fixed mag.

This is how I look at it.

If you are only using your rifle for target shooting, than go with the BB. It is a great product and you get to keep your features.

If you want your rifle for home defense or for a tactical style rifle where having the ability to change the mags fast is a must, than the U-15 or MMG is the way to go. I myself value the ability to drop mags quickly and easily more than fiddling with a "tool". If I grab my rifle to use it in a SHTF situation, I want to know I can use it. I don't buy rifles to just use at the range.

Now, I will most likely build one of my lowers with the BB (most likely HoffmanG's). Just for the range and to have fun putting on evil features. But all my other lowers have MMG's (big surprise )

Basically you need to figure out want you want from your rifle and how you want to use it.

Hope this helps you make up your mind.

My SHTF lower is a Prince50. It only takes a minute (if that). I still have two bullet button models on lowers and a MMG too.

also becareful. Somone in here thought it would be safest to have a featureless build and use a bullet button to use there pre-bans....WRONG. bullet button regardless of features or means 10 rounds only. So my advice would be not to use one on a feature less build. I know it sounds dumb but someone was thinking about doing it.

                Good lookin' out .

It would be easy to F that up.

Kinda funny how a "featureless build" using hi-caps, becomes an AW as soon as you make it slower to change mags.

As MonsterMan writes, both. The MM has no features and uses the preban magazines. The varmit (≈target) with scope uses a pistol grip, so it has the BB and 10 rounder. The classic A1 copy has a Bushmaster 10/20 fixed magazine and needs to be opened to reload. Then there's the registered one...... ....almost every evil feature under the sun.

                    BTW,

If you find the A2 stock too long for you on the gripless build, Try using an old A1 stock. It has the exact same profile, except a little bit longer, so the MMgrip fits it just as good as an A2. I'm using the A1 stock on my gripless Carbine and an A2 stock on my gripless Hbar build.

The bullet button isn't slow per se, but I wouldn't want to use it in a home defense role. You have to pay more attention to get the tool into the slot.

Unless its a home defense situation (and then you can get into the debate of the viability of an AR-15 as your HD gun) or you are in a tactical shooting competition where speed reloading is essential, then the BB is not "slow". All it requires is for you to pay a little more attention to where the hole on the button is located as you depress the mag release.

I have been practicing on my assembled lower and frankly, after a little bit, it becomes almost second nature. Maybe I am just lucky because this is my 1st and only AR and I have never worked with one that had a regular mag release.

Chris, it sounds to me like you should get the bullet button. I say that because you have mentioned retractable stocks and forward pistol grips as something you really want. Changing a magazine with a bullet button cannot take that long.

To stray a little of subject, do you guys really believe you need more than 10 bullets to defend your home? After thinking about it, aren't most home invasions non-violent burglurys? Even if it was violent it goes back to, do you really need 10 bullets.
