    I have the same question. I should be getting an LWRC 5.45 upper at some point. All the 5.45 ammo I run across is Wolf or Bear and they are steel cased.

      what exactly is the problem with the russian ammo your 5.56 upper doesnt like?

      extraction?
      feeding?
      dirty?

            There is no problem with the Steel Russian 5.45X39 in a S&W upper. The only problem is with the m-16 mags. You need to get the 5.45x39 mags to make it work right.

                Never had a problem with steel cased ammo in my ARs
                God, grant me the serenity
                To accept the things I cannot change;
                The courage to change the things I can;
                And the wisdom to know the difference.

                  The only time I have heard of problems using 556 mags for a 5.45 is with the 30 round mags loaded full (not sure how many full is, but slightly short of 30) as the curve of the mag causes feeding problems ?? All my mags are pineed to 10 rounds (10/20 and 10/30) and I have used usgi, c products and pmags without 1 single feeding issue. This is with thousands of rounds downrange.

                    Some manufacturers have some out and said that running certain ammo such as Wolf or steel cased ammo will void the manufacturers warranty. I have a friend whose AR I put together from an OLL. He shot brass ammo flawlessly, then decided to run steel cased ammo and it did something to his extractor. He replaced it and now it runs flawlessly shooting brass.
                    Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
