Newbie needs help with AK info

Hey guys, I am new to Calguns. I am looking for info on this AK. It is stamped Mitchell arms Santa Ana Ca, CAL 7.62 X 51, ZASTAVA KRAGUJEVAC, MADE IN YUGOSLAVIA. Does anyone know a model # on this gun? It does not apear to have ever been fired. How much is something like this worth? Thanks guys, any info or tips would be greatly appreciated.

It reads model AK-47 on it. The correct model should have bee M76.

All the ones sold recently have been kit guns build on domestc receivers. They range from 1250 to about 2000. Yours is the original import before the Clinton ban.

Often the price is double (for the original and discontinued models) when compared to the ones being made now domestically using parts kits. Good example here would be the German H&K 91 (and the PTR) and the Belgian FN FAL (compared to DSA). That is only because of the collector value, does not mean the domestic made once are inferior (which is often the case).

In case of some guns they sell for 10 times as much, as in the case of the Steyr imported Egyptian Maadi. It all has to do with the numbers imported and the demand. On the other hand if an item is too rare, it does not generate enough interest to drive the price high. Schwarzlose M.07/12 imported are far less than the Maxim, but sell (when they do) for about half the price compared to Maxim - reason being there are enough Maxims out there for folks to gab about to generate interest and therefor the demand. So now you have the thesis.

Considering all that, if I were you, i will start it off at 3000. If I was hard up and real desperate I will let it go for 2500. Personally if I could not get at-least 2500, I would rather be homeless but with a M76 lol..

I hope you are not in a bind, times are hard so finding a buyer right away is not easy even if you offer bargains . Big ticket items are just not moving.

It's worthless if it wasn't registered by 2000 as an assault weapon.

If it's not a Registered Assault Weapon, I'll buy it off of you for $800

        This is a serious offer.

Exactly. i suspected the person was in another state. CG is getting very popular you know..

If the Original poster is in CA, it should have been registered as an Assault Weapon. Else the guy/gal is in possession of an ILLEGAL assault weapon.

However.... if the gun was to disassembled or configured where it was not a semi automatic, it can be decided in court.. read here . Although I will advise against being a test case.

The OP is in Costa Mesa, which is funny (not ha ha) because that rifle didn't travel very far.

I'm sure it's a reg. AW, cause no one is naive enough to post pictures of their illegal assault weapon on the internet, right?

                    What he said.

                    Also...
RAWs (Registered Assault Weapons) can only be sold to CA FFL dealer with assault weapons permit or sold out-of-state.
Mitchell Arms Yugo AKs sell in the $1000-2000 range depending on condition.

If it's not a RAW, then it'll cost about $50,000 for bail and legal fees for possessing it.
