    Barrel Round Count

If it ain't broken, don't f-ix with it. I've shot over 2000 rounds with my old DPMS 20" and the rifle still punch 1/2-1" groups at 100 yards using 55gr. I've thought about changing the barrel but really don't have a need to.

    Question:

    * What is the most rounds you ever put in a single barrel before you had enough?

I have never personally shot out a barrel, though a few of my old C&R bolt guns are pretty well-worn. Some of the military rifles I was issued undoubtedly had several thousand rounds through them, maybe even ten thousand, and still shot straight enough.

I think the only people who routinely "burn barrels" are benchrest guys who shoot super-hot wildcats out of unchromed bores. And even then, their definition of a "burnt barrel" is that it doesn't hold match-quality groups anymore. That can happen in 1,000 rounds with some calibers...but their "burnt barrel" is still probably going to be more than accurate enough for the rest of us, just not good enough for their demands.

time to scratch off that idea about changing to a 1:8 18" SPR barrel

I rather save money, thanks for the info.
