    Scope for M1A SOCOM II

    Hi guys,

I am looking to put a scope on my Springfield M1A SOCOM II and I have a few questions.

Here's my situation, I have an M1A SOCOM II which doesn't have the full rail at the top. The top rails end just before the bolt assembly and it doesn't go all the way back to the rear sight aperture.

I want to be able to mount a scope on top of the rifle but I feel like I need to extend the rails to the back. Is this necessary? Can anyone recommend the kind of scope I can get that doesn't require a rail extension?

I was looking around for rail extensions and I can't seem to find the one I saw a few months back that was 8-10" long and would mount on the rails and rise up a bit but reaching farther back. Anyone know of a good extension that can suit this? Perhaps I can find the part that allows me to install the upper rail that reaches back to the rear sight like some models of the M1A SOCOM II which I didn't get off the bat.

Example of rail extension I found:

So Basically do I need a rail extension and if so what kind is recommended? Or can I find a scope that would mount on the existing top rail and not need an extension?

Thanks for any help in advance!

You'd need a scout scope such as this one

if you don't want to go with the rail extension. It's designed to be used in your type of setup. You could also use a holo sight such as an eotech. I don't know about the rail extension.
