On the older sig 556's the charging handle cants up toward the rail. If you have wide optics (like eotechs) on the rail it can become nearly unusable. Sig recently revised the charging handle design to be straight which corrects the problem. I actually just ordered one from them for 15 bucks. Cheaper than the piece of garbage I got from KZ.

I have the Griffin Tactical charging handle on both of my SIG556s....good stuff
Thanks for asking. I took it to a local gunsmith and he instructed me to take a diamond file to the bolt carrier gouge (It was a very small gouge that was impeding the op rod). It is put back together and seems to have normal operation (by hand). I'm taking it out to the range next weekend to see if it truly has been corrected. I will update.

I did some research and found the head of the KZ department at Botach is a guy named Buck Mossie. Awesome name BTW. I emailed him directly with a complete report of my experience with his product. That was 3 days ago. No response.

I finally got a hold of a customer service rep through their website who gave me an RMA and said she would have their "engineer" look at it. She would not comment on them covering any damage to my gun.

I'm not holding my breath but it sure would be great if they sent me a new bolt carrier.. Yeah I know... Good luck

OK. I want, but I don't see it on the SIG website. Am I missing it, or is it a telephone deal?

It is not listed on their website. Just call sig's customer service at (603) 772-2302 and tell them you want the new straight 556 charging handle. They knew exactly what I was talking about. It was 15 bucks for the handle and 4 bucks for shipping.

They've changed it a bit. $10 for the handle, $15 for shipping. (15?!)

I bought my 556 from another calgunner and started customizing it. I bought some eotech optics but they interfered with the factory charging handle on the 556. I ordered an aftermarket charging handle from KZ botach tactical that tilted down to avoid the optics. Took it out to the range and put about 20 rounds through it when the charging handle came flying off. Spun the operating rod and gouged the bolt carrier. Ouch.

If you put the two charging handles side by side you immediately understand why the KZ botach version is flawed. The detent is rounded off and half as deep AND the overall depth of the handle is 1/8 of an inch shorter than the factory handle which allows it to fly off.

Ultimately it was my own fault for not comparing them in detail before using it on my rifle.

IO had the same problem with the stock Sig handle. I had mounted a Nightforce scope which the stock handle interfered with. Fortunately I read about the Griffon replacement handle which has worked perfectly
